Getting to know a library involves more than simply knowing where the building is located. For graduate students, understanding the facilities, services, and information resources available is an important first step in supporting their academic studies and research. This was introduced to new students of the Master of Law and Master of Litigation Law programs at the Faculty of Law, Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), through a library visit to the UGM Library and Archives on August 14 and 15, 2026.
SDG 4: Quality Education
As students enter master’s and doctoral education, access to credible scholarly information becomes increasingly important. This was introduced to new students of the Master of Science and Doctoral Programs at the Faculty of Economics and Business, Universitas Gadjah Mada (FEB UGM), through a Campus Tour of UGM Library and Archives on Friday (August 14, 2026). The activity was part of the New Student Academic Orientation and the Researchers’ Enrichment Program (REACH) for the 2026/2027 Academic Year, organized by the Master of Science and Doctoral Programs at FEB UGM.
The information needs of the academic community continue to be an important consideration in the collection development of Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) Library and Archives. To ensure that its collections remain aligned with these needs, UGM Library and Archives is reviewing its 2026 Collection Development Policy.
Amid the abundance of scholarly information available today, finding the right references requires more than simply entering keywords. The ability to effectively search, select, and utilize scholarly resources is an essential part of producing high-quality research. Recognizing this need, the UGM Library and Archives held the Research Smarter Series #1: Getting the Most Out of ScienceDirect for Your Research workshop on Tuesday (August 11).
The UPA Perpustakaan Universitas Cenderawasih (Uncen) team visited the Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) Library and Archives with a clear purpose: to learn from UGM’s experience in managing an academic library. The benchmarking visit, held on Tuesday (August 11) at the UGM Library and Archives Meeting Room, evolved into an opportunity to exchange insights on library services, technology, digital content, and ways a library can provide comfortable spaces for its users.
The challenge of managing references and citations often becomes a stumbling block that slows down academics in writing scientific papers. For many researchers and students, compiling bibliographies and managing references is frequently the most time consuming and even frustrating phase of academic writing. A minor error in citation formatting can be fatal during the journal review process. Addressing this academic concern, the Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) Library and Archives took a proactive step by organizing the “Academic Writing Serial Literacy Workshop: Mendeley Integration in Journal Databases for Publication.”
The meeting room at the UGM Library and Archives was filled with engaging discussions on Wednesday (August 5). More than just a courtesy visit, the benchmarking session between the Library of UIN Sunan Kudus and the UGM Library and Archives provided a valuable platform for exchanging ideas on how academic libraries continue to adapt to the rapidly evolving digital information ecosystem.
The Library and Archives of Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) reaffirmed its commitment to supporting academic excellence by welcoming the 2026 cohort of new students from the Graduate Program in Religion and Cross-cultural Studies through a comprehensive library orientation program. Held on Wednesday, August 5, 2026, at the Seminar Room of UGM Library and Archives, the program introduced participants to the library’s extensive services, facilities, and academic resources designed to support their studies and research throughout their graduate education.
That morning, the first round of applause was not for a new achievement, but for years of dedicated service. Two staff members of the Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) Library and Archives received the Satyalancana Karya Satya award before participants were invited to reflect on a simple experiment exploring the power of words. The series of activities took place during the First Friday Monthly Gathering held at the BNI Co-Working Space (CWS), UGM Library and Archives, on Friday (August 7).
