Getting to know a library involves more than simply knowing where the building is located. For graduate students, understanding the facilities, services, and information resources available is an important first step in supporting their academic studies and research. This was introduced to new students of the Master of Law and Master of Litigation Law programs at the Faculty of Law, Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), through a library visit to the UGM Library and Archives on August 14 and 15, 2026.
The series of library visits began on Friday (August 14) with a visit from students of the Master of Law program. Held in the Seminar Room on the second floor of the UGM Library and Archives, the activity was received by Barid Budi Wicaksono, S.TP., M.A., together with the UGM Library and Archives team.
The activity continued on Saturday (August 15) with a library visit for new students of the Master of Litigation Law program. Also held in the Seminar Room on the second floor of the UGM Library and Archives, the activity was part of the new student orientation program, which introduced students to the library environment and the various facilities they can use throughout their studies. The students were received by Wasilatul Baroroh, S.S.I., together with the UGM Library and Archives team.
During the activity, students participated in a virtual tour of the UGM Library and Archives to gain an overview of the available facilities and services. They then explored the library facilities in person, gaining a more direct understanding of the spaces and resources that support academic activities. Students were also introduced to various facilities and services that can support their coursework and research needs.
“Through the library visit, students can become familiar with the facilities and services of the UGM Library and Archives from the beginning of their studies. They can also learn how to make the most of the facilities and information resources available to support their academic activities,” said Barid.
The activity supports Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 4: Quality Education by strengthening students’ access to facilities and learning resources. At the same time, the collaboration between the UGM Library and Archives and the Faculty of Law reflects the spirit of SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals. Cross-unit collaboration in student orientation highlights the importance of synergy within higher education institutions in building an ecosystem that supports education and research.
Through a combination of a virtual tour and an in-person exploration of the library facilities, students were able to see the library as more than just a physical space. They were introduced to it as an integral part of the academic ecosystem—a place to learn, discover information, and develop research. This is where the academic journey of graduate students can begin: by knowing the resources available, understanding how to use them effectively, and building collaborative connections to support shared academic goals.
