The Library and Archives of Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) attended the 19th AUNILO Meeting held on October 30 to November 1, 2024, at Chiang Mai University, Thailand with the theme “Enhancing Future Skills for Academic Librarians”. This meeting was organized by the ASEAN University Network Inter-Library Online (AUNILO) which is part of the ASEAN University Network (AUN) program. The first day opened with a warm welcome from key figures who showed strong support for ASEAN library collaboration. The initial remarks were delivered by Mr. Pratch Sanguansak as Director of Chiang Mai University Library; followed by Prof. Rattasit Sukhahuta, Ph.D. as Vice Chancellor of Chiang Mai University, and followed by Shameem Nilofar Maideen as AUNILO Secretariat and Head of Library of Singapore Management University. Prof. Dr. Thanapan Laiprakobsup as Deputy Executive Director of AUN, also gave his speech and conveyed various AUN programs in strengthening the spirit of collaboration for library development in Southeast Asia.

The opening session was followed by a keynote speech from Assoc. Prof. Dr. Songphan Choemprayong from the Faculty of Arts, Chulalongkorn University. In his speech titled “Insiders and Outsiders in Collection Development and Cataloging Practices of ASEAN Materials in a Global Bibliographic Universe”, Songphan reviewed the challenges and opportunities in collection development and cataloging practices of ASEAN materials in a global bibliographic landscape. Participants gained insight into how local and international perspectives can work together to enrich library collections and improve the accessibility of ASEAN materials in a globalized world.

Afterwards, the event continued with a report submission session from each AUNILO participating country, namely Cambodia, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam, and Brunei Darussalam. Arif Surachman, S.IP., MBA, as the Head of UGM Library and Archives, appeared as the representative of Indonesia to submit a report on the development of academic libraries in the country. His presence is expected to strengthen

UGM's position as a proactive institution in the ASEAN university library network and support the advancement of information literacy in accordance with the 4th Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), namely quality education.

On the second day, the meeting continued with a business meeting that discussed AUNILO activities that have been carried out and future plans to strengthen library collaboration in ASEAN. In addition, a workshop titled “Power Up Your Library: Unleashing the Potential of AI” hosted by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Suthida Chamrat from the Faculty of Education, Chiang Mai University. The workshop explored various artificial intelligence (AI) applications such as Chat GPT, Suno AI, Copilot, Invideo AI, STORM, and SciSpace. This activity gave librarians new insights into the utilization of AI in improving library efficiency. Participants directly tried these platforms to understand how they work and the benefits that can be optimized in their respective libraries.

On the third day, the activity ended with a Networking Activities & Chiang Mai Experience session. The participants were invited to visit various iconic and historical places in Chiang Mai as a form of increasing local knowledge and

cultural experiences such as the traditional pottery industry center, chiang mai museum, craft center, and Elephant conservation center. This activity is also one of the moments to strengthen the relationship between AUNILO members. This activity directly supports the 17th SDGs goal on partnerships to achieve goals. The involvement of UGM Libraries and Archives in the 19th AUNILO Meeting emphasizes the university's commitment to developing libraries that are adaptive and responsive to changing times, as well as fostering sustainable collaboration with university library networks in Southeast Asia.

Yogyakarta, October 23, 2024 – The atmosphere of the first wave postgraduate graduation at Gadjah Mada University (UGM) was made lively by a performance from the “Pustaka Laras” gamelan group from the UGM Library and Archives. With a repertoire of traditional songs, including Gati Padasih, Sasanti Gadjah Mada, Sri Slamet, Asmaradana, Gonjing Miring, Ondhe-Ondhe Semarang, and Gugur Gunung. The performance captivated graduates and invited guests alike.

The performance of “Pustaka Laras” was not merely entertainment but also underscored a commitment to cultural preservation. In line with Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) number 11, which focuses on sustainable cities and communities, this performance highlighted the importance of safeguarding cultural heritage. The showcased gamelan art serves as a means to preserve and celebrate local culture, strengthen identity, and raise awareness of the importance of cultural preservation amidst modernity.

With every gamelan melody and song, hopes for future generations were etched in the air. This cultural performance is a tangible expression of continuous education, aligned with SDG number 4 regarding Quality Education. "Pustaka Laras" strives to uphold traditions while providing opportunities for the community to learn and appreciate the beauty of long-established cultural arts.

Graduates felt the depth of meaning in this performance. Graduation is not only about academic achievements but also a reminder of the importance of preserving cultural identity in the face of progress. With the support of gamelan art, the event became even more memorable, providing a distinctive atmosphere rich in local wisdom values.

This event demonstrates that art and culture can serve as bridges to achieve greater goals. Through the performance of “Pustaka Laras”, UGM showed its commitment not only to education but also to the preservation of culture that must be continually upheld and fought for. This graduation symbolizes a journey focused on knowledge, as well as love and respect for cultural heritage.

On Tuesday, October 15, 2024, UGM Library and Archives held another Information Literacy Mini Class at the WOW meeting room. This session provides special training on the introduction of information resources (e-resources) and their utilization, designed to assist the UGM academic community in accessing digital scientific literature from various trusted sources.

Participants get an in-depth understanding of how to search for information from sources subscribed to by UGM, as well as other alternative sources available. With the guidance of experienced librarians, this training is able to optimize the ability of users to access quality information resources that support their research and academic studies.

Since its launch in June 2023, the Information Literacy Mini Class initiated by Janu Saptari, S.IP., UGM associate librarian, continues to receive great attention from students and lecturers. With a class concept limited to fifteen participants per session, this activity is designed to be more private, effective, and complete in addressing the problems faced by the users.

This class not only teaches how to access scientific literature but also introduces participants to the use of artificial intelligence-based applications in searching for scientific information, using Reference Manager, and managing and mapping local and global research results. With practical materials and competent tutors, participants are invited to maximize the information resources subscribed to by UGM.

Information Literacy Mini Class is an effective solution for improving digital literacy and information management in the UGM academic community. Furthermore, this program contributes significantly to the achievement of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), especially point 4: Quality Education, by ensuring all students and lecturers have adequate access to quality scientific literature.

With this small step, UGM Library and Archives proves that improving the quality of education can start from small meeting rooms, resulting in a big sustainable impact.

UGM Library and Archives once again held a strategic program to maximize the utilization of electronic resources subscribed to Universitas Gadjah Mada through the Springer Nature Workshop. This activity was held on Wednesday, October 09, 2024 in a hybrid manner, with offline sessions in the seminar room, building L1, 2nd floor, and online through Zoom Meeting. More than 300 participants consisting of lecturers, students, and UGM education staff enthusiastically participated in this activity.

This workshop presented two experienced speakers from Asia-Pacific, namely Mabel Tang, Director, Customer Engagement Key Accounts, APAC, and Shu Xian Toh, Account Development Manager Key Accounts, APAC. Both speakers shared their insights through two main topics, Publishing Talk and Platform Training. They shared valuable insights on tips and tricks for getting into Springer Nature journals, as well as how to maximize access to e-journals and e-books on the SpringerLink platform.

This program is an important step for UGM Libraries and Archives in facilitating users to be more involved in international scientific publications, while maximizing the utilization of existing digital academic resources. The enthusiasm of the participants during the discussion and training sessions showed the importance of in-depth understanding of effective access to e-resources to support quality research and teaching at UGM.

This activity is part of a series of database workshop series that has been going on since April 2024. With the implementation of this workshop series, UGM Library and Archives is committed to continue to support the improvement of information literacy and the contribution of the academic community in producing excellent academic works that support the achievement of quality education in accordance with the 4th goal of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

This event received a positive response from the participants who enthusiastically followed each session, both offline and online. This workshop provides significant benefits in improving the quality of publications and utilization of electronic resources at UGM.

The Library and Archives of Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) held a training activity entitled “Scopus Intensive Training for Librarians: Universitas Gadjah Mada”, which took place on October 1-2, 2024. The training occurred in the Computer Laboratory Room, Building L1 5th Floor, UGM Library and Archives. The event was designed to improve librarians’ skills in accessing and utilizing the Scopus scientific database, one of the academic platforms for searching global literature.

This activity featured Johan Jang, a Customer Consultant from Elsevier Asia Pacific (APAC), as the main speaker. With deep expertise in the use of Scopus, Johan Jang provided technical guidance and the latest insights into effective information retrieval strategies. Training participants understood how to optimally use Scopus to support academic research in the university environment.

Many librarians from Universitas Gadjah Mada participated in the training. They attended a series of practical and theoretical sessions designed to deepen their understanding of Scopus utilization. Through this activity, librarians are expected to improve academic information services to users, especially in helping students and researchers access relevant and quality literature.

The main objective of this training is to improve librarians’ expertise in providing appropriate guidance to users, especially in searching for accurate and verified literature. This training is also in line with the efforts of UGM Library and Archives to realize the 4th Sustainable Development Goal

(SDGs), namely Quality Education. With a better ability to access scientific databases, librarians can play a more active role in supporting the quality of education and research at UGM.

This training is part of the UGM librarian resource development program, which consistently strives to improve the competence and professionalism of librarians in facing the challenges of the growing academic world. Through this activity, UGM Library and Archives can continue to contribute to creating an excellent learning ecosystem and support the achievement of SDGs as a whole.
