Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), through the UGM Library and Archives, is preparing to host the National Congress of the Forum for Cooperation of State University Libraries (Munas FKP2TN) and the 2026 National Seminar. The national event, scheduled for 28–30 October 2026, will serve as an opportunity for state universities across Indonesia to strengthen collaboration and formulate future directions for academic library development in the digital transformation era.
UGM’s readiness to host the event was discussed during an audience between the FKP2TN Executive Board and the UGM Vice Rector for Education and Teaching, Prof. Dr. Wening Udasmoro, S.S., M.Hum., DEA., on Tuesday, 14 July 2026. The meeting aimed to present the event plan and seek strategic support from university leadership for the implementation of the Munas FKP2TN and National Seminar, which will be organized by the UGM Library and Archives.
In addition to discussing event preparations, the meeting also provided an opportunity for the FKP2TN Executive Board to invite UGM leaders to participate as keynote speakers at the National Seminar. The involvement of university leaders is expected to provide strategic perspectives on the contribution of academic libraries in strengthening the higher education ecosystem.
The meeting was attended by FKP2TN Vice Chair Prof. Suroto, M.A., Ph.D. from Universitas Negeri Surabaya; FKP2TN Treasurer Nurenzia Yannuar, Ph.D. from Universitas Negeri Malang; FKP2TN Deputy Treasurer Dra. Khusnul Khotimah, M.Si. from UIN Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta; and Head of the UGM Library and Archives, Arif Surachman, SIP., MBA., who also serves as Secretary of FKP2TN.
Arif Surachman stated that hosting the Munas and National Seminar at UGM represents an important opportunity to strengthen networks among state university libraries in Indonesia.
“We hope UGM can become a meeting point for university library professionals to exchange ideas, share best practices, and formulate collective steps in responding to changing needs in education and research,” said Arif.
FKP2TN is a collaborative forum consisting of approximately 170 state university libraries across Indonesia. The forum plays an important role in strengthening inter-university collaboration, improving the competence of library professionals, developing information services, and expanding access to learning and research resources.
The 2026 Munas and National Seminar will carry the theme “Reimagining Academic Libraries: Advancing Learning, Research, and Inclusive Services.” The theme highlights the importance of transforming academic libraries to respond to the evolving needs of the academic community. It reflects the changing role of academic libraries as centers for learning, research support, and accessible information services for the academic community.
The National Seminar is planned to feature speakers from various sectors, including government representatives, academics, and library practitioners. The government representative will come from the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology of the Republic of Indonesia. Academic perspectives will be presented by experts in library and information science from Universitas Gadjah Mada and UIN Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta.
In addition to expert presentations, the seminar will also showcase best practices from four state university libraries in Indonesia. Various innovations in service development, digital transformation, research support, and information access improvement will become part of the shared learning experience.
Beyond the seminar, the FKP2TN National Congress will serve as a forum for members to evaluate organizational programs, develop work agendas, and formulate strategies to strengthen cooperation among state university libraries in Indonesia. The forum is expected to produce recommendations that address future challenges in academic library management.
The implementation of the FKP2TN National Congress and National Seminar 2026 is also aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This event supports SDG 4: Quality Education by strengthening access to learning resources and academic information. Furthermore, the development of inclusive library services contributes to SDG 10: Reduced Inequalities, particularly in ensuring broader access to knowledge for diverse user groups. Collaboration among state university libraries also supports SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals through knowledge-based cooperation, innovation, and the sharing of best practices.
The trust placed in UGM as the host of the FKP2TN National Congress and National Seminar 2026 provides an opportunity for the UGM Library and Archives to strengthen its role in developing Indonesia’s national knowledge ecosystem. The event is expected to open new opportunities for collaboration and support the development of academic libraries that are responsive, innovative, and capable of advancing higher education in Indonesia.
