Book Donation from Caltex Chevron Enriches UGM Library Collection

Yogyakarta, November 21, 2024 - Alumni of Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) who are members of the Indonesian Caltex Chevron Pensioners Foundation (YPCCI) have donated a valuable collection of books to UGM Library and Archives. The handover ceremony took place on Thursday (21/11) in the Archives Meeting Room at UGM Library and Archives, with representatives from both parties in attendance.

The donation was formally received by Arif Surachman, S.IP., MBA, Head of UGM Library and Archives, accompanied by Martina Uki Emilyasanti, a staff member specializing in collection development. Representing YPCCI, Wahono Sukardjo, Chairman of the Board, attended along with three members of the delegation, reinforcing their commitment to supporting education through literacy contributions.

In his remarks, Arif expressed gratitude for the donation. “We are deeply thankful for this donation. These books will enrich the collection at UGM Library and Archives, offering tremendous benefits to the academic community.” Wahono Sukardjo, Chairman of the YPCCI Board, shared his joy in giving back to his alma mater. He explained that the donation represents their contribution as alumni, with hopes that the donated collection will be beneficial and support the learning process at UGM.

The donated books include five titles, comprising 21 copies in total: Cingkunek, Melintas Cakrawala, Memimpin dengan Nurani, 97 Years Chevron, and Dinamika Industri Migas. Published by YPCCI, Tahija Foundation, and Chevron, these books provide significant insights into leadership, the history of the energy industry, and reflections on Chevron's long journey in Indonesia.

As one of the world's leading energy companies, Chevron is headquartered in San Ramon, United States, and operates in over 180 countries. In Indonesia, Chevron collaborates with Pertamina in developing carbon capture storage (CCS) and carbon capture utilization and storage (CCUS) technologies, essential steps toward energy sustainability.

This initiative aligns with UGM Library and Archives' commitment to fostering strategic partnerships in support of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Collaborations with alumni like this one contribute to achieving SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals, while the high-quality collections available in the library strengthen SDG 4: Quality Education. Through this initiative, UGM Library and Archives continues to demonstrate its dedication to being a hub of information and literacy that supports quality education and sustainability.

Optimizing the Use of E-Resources, UGM Library and Archives Holds Training of Trainer for Librarians

Yogyakarta, November 19-20, 2024 – In an effort to support the optimization of e-resources utilization, the UGM Library and Archives organized a Training of Trainer (TOT) for librarians, held at the Computer Lab Room, L1 Building, 5th Floor, UGM Library and Archives. This event was attended by a number of librarians and library staff from UGM, eager to deepen their understanding of accessing and utilizing the available library databases.

In his opening remarks, Arif Surachman, SIP., MBA., Head of UGM Library and Archives, expressed his hope that the librarians attending the training would be able to pass on the knowledge they gained to students and assist them in accessing various scientific information sources through the databases subscribed to by UGM Library and Archives.

On the first day, participants were invited to explore two important databases, ProQuest and Statista, to support research. Dwi Janto Suandaru, Marketing Manager of PT. Jasaraya Tama Jaya Buana, was the speaker for this session, offering insights into how these databases can be used to enhance research quality and knowledge development.

On the second day, the training continued with a presentation on the Taylor and Francis database by Ardy Chandra, Online Resources Sales Manager at Taylor and Francis Group. This session was followed by a training on the Sage Premier Journal and Sage Research Methods Suite databases, presented by Efa Silvia from iGroup Indonesia. The participants showed great enthusiasm, attentively following each session, ensuring the smooth flow of the training.

This Training of Trainer event is part of UGM Library and Archives' commitment to supporting the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 4, Quality Education. By providing UGM's academic community with access to high-quality scientific information, the library aims to enhance the quality of education and research at UGM.

Through this event, UGM Library and Archives continues to support the academic needs of the entire UGM community, particularly in accessing and utilizing the e-resources available.
