Sharing Knowledge for Better Libraries: UNM Visits UGM Library and Archives

Strengthening the management of university libraries requires quality services and information systems that meet users’ needs. To learn from established library management practices, the Faculty of Languages and Literature at Universitas Negeri Makassar (UNM) visited Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) Library and Archives on Friday, October 9, 2026.

A total of 30 representatives from UNM’s Faculty of Languages and Literature participated in a best-practice sharing session held in the Archives Meeting Room on the second floor of Building L7 at UGM Library and Archives. The visit aimed to strengthen library governance and improve the quality of library management within UNM’s Faculty of Languages and Literature.

The delegation was welcomed by Wahyu Supriyanto, S.E., M.Si., Head of the Library Division at UGM Library and Archives. In his welcoming remarks, Wahyu provided an overview of the library’s facilities and services, highlighting their role in supporting information needs and academic activities.

“Thank you to the Faculty of Languages and Literature at Universitas Negeri Makassar for visiting UGM Library and Archives. This meeting is an opportunity for us to share experiences. We strive to meet the diverse needs of our library users by providing facilities and services that accommodate their information needs,” said Wahyu Supriyanto.

The session continued with a presentation by Yulistiarini Kumaraningrum, S.P., M.M., Head of the Data and Information Systems Division at UGM Library and Archives. She introduced the information systems used by UGM Library and Archives to support information management and library service development.

“At UGM Library and Archives, our information systems are integrated to support library management and services for our users. This integration helps make information management and access to library services more effective,” explained Yulistiarini Kumaraningrum.

The Dean of UNM’s Faculty of Languages and Literature, Prof. Dr. Anshari, M.Hum., viewed the visit as an opportunity to gain insights into improving library management. Sharing experiences with institutions that have established library management practices and services can provide valuable lessons for developing services that meet users’ needs.

“This visit is an opportunity for us to learn about the library management practices and information systems implemented at UGM Library and Archives. The experience and knowledge we gain can serve as a reference for improving library management at UNM’s Faculty of Languages and Literature,” said Anshari.

The visit provided an opportunity to exchange experiences in university library management, covering facilities and services as well as the use of integrated information systems. Through sharing best practices, both institutions can gain new insights to develop library services that meet their users’ needs and suit their respective circumstances.

This initiative supports the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 4: Quality Education, by strengthening libraries’ role in facilitating access to information and supporting academic activities. It also aligns with SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals, which promotes knowledge exchange and collaboration between institutions to advance sustainable development.
