The commitment of Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) Library and Archives to supporting research has received recognition through the 2026 FKP2TN Award. UGM Library and Archives was named the First Place Winner in the Best Research Support Library Award category during the gala dinner of the 11th National Conference and National Seminar of the Forum for Cooperation among State University Libraries (FKP2TN), held on Wednesday, October 28, 2026, at University Club (UC) Hotel UGM, Yogyakarta.
FKP2TN Vice Chair Prof. Drs. Suroto, M.A., Ph.D., stated that the inaugural FKP2TN Award marked an important step toward encouraging improvements in the management of university libraries.
“The inaugural FKP2TN Award 2026 provides an opportunity to recognize university libraries that have demonstrated strong performance and innovation in service development. This year, 24 state universities registered to participate in the awards. We hope the FKP2TN Award will motivate libraries to continue developing, sharing experiences, and providing better services for their academic communities,” he said.
The award highlights the important role libraries play in building a strong research ecosystem within higher education institutions. Supporting research requires access to high-quality scholarly information resources, information literacy services, and guidance that helps academic communities meet their research needs.
The Head of UGM Library and Archives, Arif Surachman, SIP., MBA., said the award would encourage the institution to continue improving service quality and strengthening the library’s contribution to academic activities and research.
“This award motivates us to continue developing services that respond to the needs of the academic community. Libraries play a strategic role in supporting the research ecosystem, from providing access to scholarly information resources to enhancing researchers’ information literacy skills. We will continue striving to deliver services that remain relevant to the evolving needs of academia,” he said.
UGM Library and Archives continues to develop services to support these needs. Through programs such as Individual Academic Consultation (IAC), Library Clinic, Mini Class on Information Literacy, and other initiatives, members of the academic community receive guidance in conducting literature searches, evaluating information sources, and using scholarly information effectively and responsibly.
Strengthening research support services also involves leveraging technology and digital information resources. Facilitating access to scholarly literature is essential throughout the research process, from identifying research topics and finding references to preparing academic publications.
This achievement provides an opportunity for UGM Library and Archives to continue evaluating and developing services that meet researchers’ needs. It also reinforces the institution’s commitment to providing library services that remain relevant to the evolving academic landscape.
This achievement aligns with Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 4: Quality Education, by supporting access to knowledge and strengthening academic capacity; SDG 9: Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure, by strengthening the research ecosystem and advancing scientific knowledge; and SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals, by fostering networks among university libraries to share knowledge, exchange good practices, and promote the sustainable development of academic library services.
The award further encourages UGM Library and Archives to strengthen its role as a strategic partner in research. Looking ahead, the challenge is to ensure that library services and information resources become increasingly accessible and deliver tangible benefits to research quality and the advancement of knowledge.
