Four hundred and twenty-four students from 53 countries have begun a new chapter of their academic journey at Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM). Before starting their studies, they were introduced to the campus environment, available services, and various experiences that will shape their time as members of the UGM community.
The introduction was part of PIONEER (Program for International Orientation and New-student Empowerment to Enhance Readiness) 2026, a four-day orientation program for UGM international students that began on Wednesday (August 26). As part of the program, the UGM Library and Archives introduced its facilities and services to the new international students.
The session was delivered by Safirotu Khoir, Ph.D., Coordinator of Public Relations and International Affairs at the UGM Library and Archives. During the session, students were introduced to various library facilities and services available to support their academic activities throughout their studies at UGM.
The participation of the UGM Library and Archives in PIONEER provided an opportunity to introduce the library to students at the beginning of their academic journey. Students received an overview of the facilities, study spaces, and information services available to support their learning and research needs.
The session complemented the range of information provided throughout the PIONEER program. Through the session, international students were introduced to the library as one of the campus facilities that can support their learning and academic activities throughout their studies at UGM.
The session was also part of the UGM Library and Archives’ efforts to welcome international students and help them become familiar with the resources available on campus. The presence of students from different countries also contributes to the increasingly diverse and open academic community at UGM.
Access to information resources and learning facilities supports the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 4: Quality Education, by contributing to an inclusive learning environment and access to educational resources. Meanwhile, the presence of students from various countries and cross-cultural interactions within the UGM community also reflect the spirit of SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals.
Through PIONEER, international students are introduced to the campus environment and various services that can support their academic life. For the UGM Library and Archives, participation in the program provides an opportunity to introduce these resources from the outset, ensuring that students know which facilities are available to support them throughout their studies at UGM.
