Educational Visit of MAN 1 Sragen to UGM Library and Archives Strengthens Literacy Partnerships and Future Inspiration

The Library and Archives of Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) received an educational visit from MAN 1 Sragen, consisting of students and school staff, on Thursday (January 29, 2026). The activity was part of efforts to strengthen literacy, introduce university library services, and support the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 4 on Quality Education and SDG 17 on Partnerships for the Goals.

The visit was held in the seminar room of the UGM Library and Archives and was attended by students along with their accompanying teachers from MAN 1 Sragen. The activity aimed to provide students with insights into the role of university libraries as centers of learning resources, while also introducing the collections and services available at the UGM Library and Archives.

The Head of MAN 1 Sragen, Windrati, S.Pd., M.Pd., stated in her remarks that the visit was designed as an out-of-class learning activity. According to her, the experience gained by students at the UGM Library is expected to have a positive impact on the development of a literacy culture at the madrasah.
“This visit aims to seek knowledge and motivate students to become more familiar with the UGM Library and Archives and its collections. The knowledge gained here can be applied at MAN 1 Sragen and serve as encouragement for students to aspire to continue their studies at UGM,” she said.

Representing the UGM Library and Archives, Head of the Library Division Wahyu Supriyanto, S.E., M.Si., welcomed the visit and emphasized the role of the library as an open learning space for the public. He explained that the UGM Library and Archives house a wide range of collections, including rare materials that can be utilized as valuable sources of knowledge.
“This library holds many valuable collections that can be used to support learning. However, beyond knowledge, character building is also an important aspect for students,” he noted.

On the same occasion, Wahyu also introduced the service slogan of the UGM Library and Archives, known as 5S: Smile, Greet, Polite, Solution, and Wholehearted, as a commitment to providing friendly and professional services to users.

The activity continued with a question-and-answer session between students and library staff. Students actively asked questions regarding service procedures, available facilities, and how library collections can be utilized to support learning activities.

The visit then proceeded with a library tour from the first to the fourth floor of the UGM Library and Archives. During the tour, participants were introduced to various services, including the Window of the World (WOW), circulation services, rare collections, and The Gade Creative Lounge (TGCL). Through this activity, students gained a direct understanding of the functions and management of a university library.

The visit concluded with a joint documentation session inside and outside the UGM Library and Archives building. Through this activity, the UGM Library and Archives reaffirmed its commitment to supporting quality education through the enhancement of literacy, while also strengthening partnerships with secondary education institutions as part of a collective effort to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals.
