Workshop “Guide for Academic: From Research to Publication” Explores Scientific Publication Strategies and Tips to Get Published in Reputable International Journals

The Library and Archives of Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), in collaboration with the international publisher Taylor & Francis, held a workshop titled “Guide for Academic: From Research to Publication” on Wednesday (November 12) at the Seminar Room, L1 Building, 2nd Floor, and online via Zoom Meeting. The event served as a concrete step to strengthen the capacity of UGM’s academic community in achieving publication in reputable international journals.

The event opened with remarks from the Head of the UGM Library and Archives, Arif Surachman, S.I.P., M.B.A., who emphasized the library’s role as a strategic partner in supporting research and academic publication activities across the university.

“The library is committed to supporting UGM’s academic community in producing high-quality publications with global competitiveness. This workshop is part of our continuous effort to enhance academic skills and expand scholarly networks,” he stated.

Barid Budi Wicaksono, S.TP., M.A., served as the moderator, leading the session interactively and connecting two keynote speakers who shared practical insights into the academic publication process.

Ardy Chandra, Online Resources Sales Manager at Taylor & Francis Indonesia, opened the session by presenting the use of Taylor & Francis digital resources. He introduced the platform’s key features, including how to access articles, utilize citation tools, and submit manuscripts through the Open Journal System (OJS).

“Impactful academic publications come from carefully crafted research and the right choice of publication platform. We aim to help Indonesian researchers understand the international publishing system so their work can gain global recognition,” explained Ardy.

The next session was delivered by Dr. Wahyu Wardhana, S.Hut., M.Sc., a lecturer from the Faculty of Forestry at UGM, who shared his best practices in publishing articles in Scopus-indexed journals. He highlighted the importance of precision in writing and emotional resilience during the peer-review process. “If you want to publish in reputable journals, don’t take reviewers’ comments personally. Every critique is an opportunity to improve your research quality,” he said.

Dr. Wahyu also offered practical tips to increase the chances of publication acceptance, such as selecting a topic that matches the journal’s scope, writing clearly and academically, outlining a solid methodology, and ensuring originality.

The participants’ enthusiasm was evident through the numerous questions raised during the discussion session, ranging from publication strategies to handling manuscript revisions.

Through this workshop, the UGM Library and Archives reinforced its role in the university’s research ecosystem. Its collaboration with Taylor & Francis represents a tangible effort to enhance the quality and global reputation of UGM’s academic publications.

The workshop also aligns with UGM’s commitment to supporting the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly Goal 4 on Quality Education, Goal 9 on Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure, and Goal 17 on Partnerships for the Goals, by fostering a culture of research, sustainable innovation, and global collaboration in advancing scientific knowledge.
