UM Digital Library Study Program Visits UGM Library and Archives to Strengthen Academic Collaboration

Efforts to strengthen inter-university collaboration in library management are becoming increasingly concrete. On Friday (August 29, 2025), the Diploma IV Program in Digital Library, Faculty of Vocational Studies, Universitas Negeri Malang (UM), conducted an academic visit to the UGM Library and Archives. The meeting took place in the Conference Room, Building L7, 2nd Floor.

The UM delegation was welcomed by Arif Surachman, S.I.P., M.B.A., Head of the UGM Library and Archives, and Wahyu Supriyanto, S.E., M.Si., Head of the Library Division. The agenda covered a presentation on the facilities and services of the UGM Library and Archives, as well as discussions on internship opportunities, which are planned to become a strategic form of collaboration.

Wahyu Supriyanto emphasized that UGM is always open to collaborations that enrich students’ learning experiences. “At the UGM Library and Archives, we have involved part-time students to assist staff with various tasks. This scheme not only helps reduce the workload but also provides students with real-world insights into library practices,” he explained.

UM representatives expressed their plan to send students to participate in the internship program at the UGM Library and Archives. Through this collaboration, students are expected to gain not only technical skills but also soft skills such as time management, user services, and applied digital literacy.

The visit concluded with a tour of several service areas at the UGM Library and Archives, including The Gade Creative Lounge (TGCL) and Lawang Sajarah. This provided participants with a firsthand look at innovative library services that combine modern and historical concepts within one knowledge ecosystem.

The visit also reflected UGM’s contribution to supporting the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 4: Quality Education through the provision of practical learning opportunities, and SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals through inter-university collaboration.

Looking ahead, this collaboration is expected to nurture a generation of digital librarians who are not only responsive to academic needs but also capable of addressing the challenges of information management in the digital transformation era.
