Organizing Posbindu and Dental Check-Up: UGM Library and Archives Promotes a Healthy Lifestyle on Campus

The Library and Archives of Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) brought a fresh touch to the 2025 Gadjah Mada Library and Archive Fair (GMLAF) by hosting an Integrated Coaching Post for Non-Communicable Diseases (Posbindu PTM) on Friday (15/8). In collaboration with the Health Promoting University (HPU), Integrated Health Services Bureau (BPKT), and the Dental and Oral Hospital (RSGM), the event not only focused on routine health checks but also offered additional services in the form of dental and oral examinations.

Held at the Seminar Room on the 2nd floor of the UGM Library and Archives, the event took place from 07:30 to 10:00 WIB and was attended by 181 participants from the UGM community. Participants received services including blood pressure, blood sugar, cholesterol, and uric acid checks, as well as personal health consultations. In addition, 61 participants also took advantage of the dental and oral check-up services provided during the event.

Head of UGM Library and Archives, Arif Surachman, S.IP., MBA., stated that organizing Posbindu PTM as part of GMLAF was a tangible manifestation of the Library and Archives as a holistic service center. “A library is not only for the advancement of knowledge but also for the well-being of its users. Health is a vital foundation for productivity and lifelong learning,” he said.

This activity reflects UGM’s concrete support for the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). SDG 3: Good Health and Well-Being is represented through preventive health services provided to participants, ensuring early detection of disease risk factors. SDG 4: Quality Education is realized by integrating health literacy into the information literacy ecosystem, enabling participants to access not only academic knowledge but also knowledge to maintain their quality of life. SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals is embodied through cross-unit synergy at UGM to create a healthy, productive, and sustainable campus ecosystem.

By integrating health services, UGM Library and Archives expands the meaning of “enlightening the life of the nation” beyond intellectual development to include physical well-being, a step that demonstrates how reading and maintaining health go hand in hand toward building a productive and prosperous society.
