Library Zones at UGM Library and Archives

To ensure the comfort and productivity of all users, the UGM Library and Archives has designated three main zones: Silent Zone, Quiet Zone, and Conversation-Friendly Zone. Each zone is tailored to specific activities and user needs, with clear rules to maintain a comfortable atmosphere.

SILENT ZONE

The Silent Zone is designed for users who require absolute silence for focused individual study. This area is ideal for reading, research, and other activities that demand high concentration.

Rules:

  1. No noise, please.
  2. No conversation or group study permitted.
  3. Set cell phones to vibrate or silent. Please leave the area to take phone calls.
  4. Use electronics with earphones.
  5. No food allowed; water bottles are permitted.

Locations:

  1. Electronic Theses and Dissertations (ETD): L5 building, 2nd floor
  2. Individual Study Room: L5 building, 3rd floor
  3. Lawang Sajarah (Rare Collection Room): L6 building, 3rd floor

QUIET ZONE

The Quiet Zone offers a balance between silence and light conversation, making it suitable for both individual and small group study. This space allows whispered discussions and provides a calm environment for collaborative work.

Rules:

  1. Talking at a whisper only.
  2. Conversations should be whispered.
  3. Set cell phones to vibrate or silent. Please leave the area to take phone calls.
  4. Use electronics with earphones.
  5. No food allowed; lidded drinks (bottles) are permitted.

Locations:

  • Windows of the World (WOW): L1 building, 1st floor
  • Circulation Room (Book Loan): L5 building, 1st floor
  • Periodicals and Reference Room: L6 building, 1st floor
  • Social Collections Room: L6 building, 2nd floor
  • The Gade Creative Lounge (TGCL): L1 building, 4th floor

CONVERSATION-FRIENDLY ZONE

The Conversation-Friendly Zone is a dynamic space where users can engage in discussions, group work, and collaborative activities. This area encourages interaction and provides flexibility for academic or creative projects.

Rules:

  1. Conversations and group study allowed.
  2. Set cell phones to vibrate or silent. Please leave the area to take phone calls.
  3. Electronics must be used at a low volume or with headphones.
  4. Food and beverages are allowed.

Locations:

  1. All Hallways
  2. Discussion and Study Room: L1 building, 3rd floor
