Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), in collaboration with Bank Negara Indonesia (BNI), officially inaugurated the Co-Working Space by BNI Berbagi at the UGM Library and Archives on Tuesday, May 13, 2026. The inauguration marks the initial step of a strategic partnership between BNI and the UGM Library and Archives in supporting the development of a modern, collaborative, and adaptive learning space for library users.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by the Director of Institutional Affairs of BNI, Eko Setyo Nugroho, and the Rector of UGM, Prof. drg. Ova Emilia, M.Med.Ed., Sp.OG(K)., Ph.D. Also present were Dr. Arie Sujito, S.Sos., M.Si., Vice Rector for Student Affairs, Community Service, and Alumni; Dr. Danang Sri Hadmoko, S.Si., M.Sc., Vice Rector for Research, Business Development, and Cooperation; Prof. Dr. Puji Astuti, S.Si., M.Sc., Apt., Directorate of Global Partnerships and Relations; and Arif Surachman, SIP., MBA, Head of the UGM Library and Archives.
The opening ceremony was also attended by BNI Director Putrama Wahju Setyawan and the Rector of UGM, Prof. drg. Ova Emilia, M.Med.Ed., Sp.OG(K)., Ph.D. The presence of this co-working space is expected to strengthen the role of the library not only as an information center, but also as a space for collaboration and the development of student creativity.
This partnership is part of ongoing efforts to improve library services in line with the evolving needs of digital-era learning. The presence of a co-working space within the library environment is expected to create a more interactive and productive learning atmosphere for visitors of the UGM Library and Archives.
Director of Institutional Affairs of BNI, Eko Setyo Nugroho, stated that the facility is expected to be optimally utilized by visitors of the UGM Library and Archives to develop ideas and enhance individual capacities.
“This facility can serve as a space for developing the ideas of UGM’s academic community. It is hoped that this collaboration will further advance education and human resource development in Indonesia,” he said.
Meanwhile, the Rector of UGM, Prof. drg. Ova Emilia, M.Med.Ed., Sp.OG(K)., Ph.D., welcomed the collaboration as a form of support for the transformation of library services within the university environment.
“Hopefully, this facility will enhance the quality of library services as a modern space for learning and collaboration,” she stated.
The establishment of the Co-Working Space by BNI Berbagi is not merely an addition of a new facility, but part of an effort to create a more vibrant space for the academic community. Amid changes in learning and collaboration methods, the library is expected to serve as a meeting point for ideas, discussions, and creativity in a comfortable and open environment. From this space, various ideas and new collaborations are expected to emerge and contribute more broadly to education and society.
